SAI Connections offers small-group art and craft classes designed specifically for children with special needs. Our sensory-friendly studio in Glendale welcomes kids with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), ADHD, Down syndrome, sensory processing differences, speech and language delays, and other developmental disabilities — as well as siblings and peers of all abilities. Every project is open-ended and adapted to your child, so every child can participate, make choices, and feel proud of what they create.
Art Adapted for Children of All Abilities
Art is one of the most inclusive ways for children to learn and express themselves — especially for kids who find traditional classroom settings overwhelming. Our teachers adapt every activity to each child's needs: modified grips and tools for developing fine motor skills, visual schedules and step-by-step modeling for kids who need structure, and the freedom to explore materials at their own pace for kids who don't. Whether your child is verbal or nonverbal, works best one-on-one or in a small group, there is a place for them at our table.
A Sensory-Friendly Space, Built on Purpose
Many children with autism or sensory processing differences are sensitive to noise, light, and texture. Our classes are intentionally small and calm: soft lighting, no loud surprises, and materials chosen with sensory needs in mind. Children who need movement breaks take them. Children who need to watch before they try are given time. Nothing about the environment asks your child to mask or “keep up.” And every class is led by credentialed professionals experienced in exactly this work.
What Your Child Builds Through Art
Cognitive skills
Planning a project, sequencing steps, and cause-and-effect thinking (what happens when we mix blue and yellow?).
Visual perception
Noticing shapes, colors, and spatial relationships — foundational skills for reading and writing.
Fine motor skills
Grasping brushes, cutting, molding, and pinching strengthen the same hand muscles used for handwriting and self-care skills.

Support for the Whole Family
SAI Connections is a special education center, and our art program is part of a larger set of programs for school-age children, young adults, and adults with special needs. Our team works with families in English, Spanish, and Armenian, and we're proud to serve Glendale's diverse community. If your child has an IEP or receives services like speech, OT, or ABA, tell us — we're happy to reinforce the goals your child is already working on.
