SAI Connections — Little hands make big differences

Pottery for Adults of All Abilities in Van Nuys

Inclusive, hands-on clay. Shape, create, and take home something of your own.

Working with clay is one of the most rewarding and calming ways to create. Our inclusive pottery classes welcome young adults and adults of all abilities, including those with autism, developmental disabilities, and sensory needs, as part of our Van Nuys recreational day program. In small, supportive groups, participants shape and paint clay pieces at their own pace, guided by credentialed, caring staff who know each person by name. The studio is a social place as well, where participants create side by side and share tools, ideas, and plenty of laughs. Every participant grows in skill, confidence, and independence, and takes home something real to be proud of.

What Adults Build in the Pottery Studio

Creative Self-Expression

Clay is a powerful outlet for expressing ideas and emotions, no words required.

Fine-Motor & Hand Strength

Shaping, pinching, and smoothing build hand strength and hand-eye coordination.

Calm & Focus

The tactile, grounding feel of clay soothes the senses and supports focus and self-regulation.

Confidence & Independence

Finishing and painting a real piece builds pride, self-esteem, and independence.

A Few Minutes in the Studio

Shaping a clay animal takes patience, a steady hand, and a lot of small decisions — where the ears go, how deep to press the texture, which colors to reach for. Behind the table, finished pieces sit drying, waiting to go home.

No soundtrack, no narration — just the work, exactly as it looks on an ordinary afternoon at our Van Nuys studio.
